He hiked alone through Poland, Czech Republic, Austria and Italy, carrying all his equipment in his rucksack. He slept in a tent put up in private property, sometimes he spent nights in monasteries. The Austrians gave him the warmest welcome. He was in telephone contact with the hostel, and the manager of the institution visited him during his trip and accompanied him in Rome. The aim of the pilgrimage was paying tribute to John Paul II and celebrating the twenty fifth anniversary of our Society. On Monday, 14 June, Mr Czeslaw participated in general audience and prayed at John Paul II’s grave. In Rome he was looked after by Father R. Pietkiewicz and Father A. Jerie, thanks to whom he could visit St. Peter’s Basilica and St. Bartolomeo Basilica, where there are relics of St. Wojciech. He spent the feast of Corpus Christi in Orvietto, and on Sunday, in the morning, he was already back in the hostel. It was exactly on our Patron’s day.
