In September 2005 a General Meeting was held during which resolution ("About values and development plan...") was established and a strategy for near future development of our Society was decided on. On 30.06.2006, the board of directors determined the general plan of changes in this sphere, accepting the Society's Strategy for 2006-2015. Both documents were created in a process of constant consultations, first in project teams, then in associations and finally in the Board of Directors or during the General Meeting. The strategy includes the analysis of environment, in which we operate, study of our organisation, but most importantly, there is a vision of out Society, expressed in a concise way, our most important aims are stated, and proposals of actions within five crucial spheres are formulated. The visionThe following table represents current and future vision of the Society according to terms that we believe to be most important for our work. We assume that only by stating an exact vision it is possible to set the goals high enough to be a real challenge and motivation to work. | Nr | Term | 2006 | 2010 | 2015 | | 1 | Nr of people in need who became independent | 296 | 350 | 430 | | 2 | Nr of admissions to the care centres | 4000 | 5500 | 7000 | | 3 | Nr of professional staff members | ? | 80% | 100% | | 4 | Level of satisfaction of those who receive our services | ? | +10% | +20% | | 5 | Nr of care centres that meet the operational standards | ? | 50% | 100% | | 6 | Nr of seats in the care centres in general | 3200 | 3300 | 3500 | | 7 | Nr of hours of volunteer work Nr of working hours of association members | ? | +30% | +50% | | 8 | Nr of care centres meeting the living standards | ? | 50% | 80% | | 9 | % of non-public income | 50% | 55% | 60% | | 10 | Nr of declared teetotallers | ? | +10% | +20% | | 11 | Nr of members paying membership fees | ? | 2000 | 4000 | | 12 | Nr of really working chaplains | 25 | 35 | 45 | | 13 | Nr of associations in the new areas | 1 | 5 | 10 | | 14 | Research centre | 0 | 1 | 1 |
Some measures are still not applied, thus there are blank spaces in the aforementioned table and need to be specified, so that we all understand how to read them. Spheres crucial to the SocietyFirst sphere - process of helping the homelessWe want to design and introduce a uniform help scheme for the homeless, based on our previous experience. To achieve this, we take up the following steps: - Specification of social categories that benefit from the services of the Society, counting their populations, defining of notions.
- Studying the operation of systems that were applied in a few associations.
- Designing of a help scheme.
a) Specifying what kind of care centres are needed for each of the groups b) Setting of the living standards for the each kind of a care centre c) Setting of the operational standards for the each kind of a care centre d) Defining the competency profiles for managers - Designing of a financing model for the care centres, in order to let them meet the standards, and plans for new acts and regulations to be implemented by the government (consulting of the plans, presenting it to politicians and officials)
- Plan for the implementation of the scheme:
a) designing of a general plan b) association members to discuss the general plan c) designing of a detailed plan d) designing the means of consulting, conducting internships, trainings and finding financing for the associations - Implementation of this scheme, monitoring and evaluation
Second sphere - spiritual condition of the employees and membersUntil 2015 we want all the employees of the Society to: - live by Christian values
- work in the spirit of St. Albert
- have personal predisposition to work with the homeless
- keep improving their qualifications
- behave ethically
To achieve this, a program concerning the spiritual condition of the employees and members is to be designed and implemented. In order to achieve this aim, the following actions need to be taken: - a general plan concerning rules, aims and means of gathering in small groups for meditation, lectures, prayer ect.
- designing of methodology and research on the spiritual development of the members and determining the efficiency of methods used in the Society.
- establishing of employees recruitment criteria
- formulation, launching and control of programme concerning means of gathering in small groups for meditation, lectures, prayer ect.
Third sphere - Society in the media of social communicationOur challenge in this sphere is to use those three elements: fundraising, social communication, social education. - In regards of social communication, our aim is to raise awareness about the homeless and present the Society, as the greatest organiser of help for the homeless in Poland. We can not forget about ensuring high esteem of the Society, inside the organisation.
- In regards of education, we want Poles to change attitude towards problem of homelessness. As a result, we will be able to help the homeless to reintegrate more easily.
- In the matters of fundraising, the Society is to gain funds from national sources and European Union, thanks to which further development and promotion of the organisation will be possible.
We are to achieve such aims: - Familiarising people from our centres (eating-houses, shelters) with our work
- Designing of marketing rules, concerning Society's image (logo, style of correspondence texts, choice of colours, naming etc.)
- Acquiring of the resources
- Updating of data on the official website
- Acquiring strategic sponsors
- Acquiring of media patronage
- Social education (cooperation with schools and universities)
- Changing the image of the homeless
- Creating consistent image for the Society
- Lobbing on different levels
- Establishing of national "Homeless day"
Fourth Sphere - recruitment and activation of membersCertain actions are really needed, in order to achieve the following aims: - Increasing the number of the members, especially the younger people
- Creation and shaping of leaders - finding the successors for the current ones
- Education of the priests, so that they know the needs and expectations of the Society.
- Recruitment of professionals who possess the knowledge of social doctrine of the Church and St. Albert's spirituality.
- Greater integration of the Society's members and employees on the common grounds of spirituality, organisation and social life.
- Each member being needed, having the opportunity to develop skills and his or her job being appreciated.
Among other, such will be the actions: - Analysing the need for employing specialists (psychologists, psychiatrists, group work instructors) or their services.
- Organising of meetings, workshops and trips by the associations.
- Establishing school groups after lectures and meetings with the youth.
- Organising local integration meetings of the members of the associations and high masses for the Society.
Fifth sphere - creation of integrated information systemSystem is to help solving two problems: great size of the organisation (difficulties with data share) and problem of inconsistency (different distribution of experience and knowledge in the centres or no exchange of goods and experience). The system is to measure how effectively the aims achieved. Elements of the system: - Database (of the homeless, members, employees, fixed assets, financial data of the associations, data of quality checks)
- Knowledge base (base of good practices, frequently used legal acts, our internal regulations)
- Cooperation forum ("I need...." - "I can give away..."); information about unoccupied places in shelters; discussion on matters of Society's interest; group work tool; project support tool)
Main goals to achieve: - Cataloguing the current state of matters, defining the needs, provider choice
- Preparing of test version, training in 6 associations, analysis and conclusions
- Correction – establishing of a final version, implementation in all associations
SummaryBoard of directors' choice of strategy is to achieve the aims of taking: - more unified and better directed actions, because they will be based on ("About values and development plan") resolution, that was passed during The Meeting of Delegates.
- more effective actions, because focused on the spheres suggested by the Board of Directors,
- better organised actions, because we know our strengths and weaknesses,
- actions that are easier to assess, because of introduced measures,
- actions that are easier to understand, because decisions are to be based on schemes, that were designed a few dozens of people, during many months of debate.
Five executive teams are responsible for implementation of plans, according to the decisions of the Board of Directors, and all the members of the Society should do their job to make the change happen. The strategy is to be updated annually, according to the new circumstances and progress.
