St.Brother Albert’s hostel for men in Jelenia Gora has been acting for 5 years. An institution was established in August 2001 in the building of a former kindergarten at 51 Grunwaldzka St. There are 78 places but in the winter even 120-130 people stay there. The hostel also helps the poor from the city by giving dinners and clothes.
Due to an anniversary there took place a celebration with the participation of His Eminence the Bishop of Legnica Stefan Cichy. There was a thanksgiving Mass at St. Erazm and Pankracy’s Church and the meeting at the parish house. The participants were: Vice-president and Chairman of the City Council of Jelenia Góra, numerous members of the circle with the Chairman T. Matysiak and the representatives of the Main Board, M. Jezierska i U. Badura. Before the meeting the bishop consecrated a new institution of the circle – a home for elderly men at 180 Wolności St. As there appeared a need to establish a separate home for elderly homeless people, who have now little chance of becoming independent yet need peace and better conditions, the circle started to look for a building. The municipal authorities gave a building demanding conversion and major renovation. Thanks to the kindness of municipal, province authorities and many sponsors the circle gained the means and materials and the works were done mainly by the occupants of the hostel. At present 21 men live there, and after finishing the renovation there will be 40 places.
