From 1 to 5 December at the Wroclaw shopping centres one could meet the Green Santa Claus. He did not give presents but collected money for the Women and Single Mothers Shelter at 9 Strzegomska St. This collection has a fourteen-year tradition. Residents of Wroclaw appeared generous once more – we collected 22 447 PLN. This amount will be used to organize the St. Nicholas’s Day, Christmas celebration and prepare better meals in the shelter. There are mothers and 18 children from 2 weeks to 17 years old staying in the shelter.
The following shopping centres took part in this year’s campaign: Solpol, Podwale, Galeria Dominikańska, Astra I, Astra Bis, Kaufland, Carrefour, Makro, Centrum Bielany, IKEA, OBI, Korona. About 200 volunteers acted as Green Santa Clauses. They were students from the university chaplaincies: Dominik, Porcjunkula, Maciejowka, Redemptor as well as students of the Public Health Faculty of the Medical University, students of the Lower Silesian College of Public Services “Asesor” and of the Post-Secondary School for Social Services Employees and students of secondary schools. The Green Santa Claus will visit the shelter on Monday because he has to do shopping earlier. If someone wants to meet him, there will be such opportunity on 14 and 15 December in the Feniks shopping centre. |
