To one's neighbour 2008 Print E-mail
Tuesday, 20 November 2007

On Friday, 16 November, in the Warsaw Zacheta gallery, works given for the tenth auction “Blizniemu swemu…” ("To one's neighbour ...") were exhibited.

Among the famous guests were visual artists like: Prof. Magdalena Abakanowicz, Prof. Gustaw Zemla, Prof. Tadeusz Dominik, Jan Tarasin, Franciszek Masluszczak as well as politicians - eurodeputy Mieczyslaw Janowski and senator Władyslaw Ortyl. There were also numerous members of our Society with the ZG Chairman Bohdan Aniszczyk; President of the “Blizniemu Swemu…” Foundation, Emil Jurkiewicz and President of the Warsaw Circle, Halina Mucha. The event was conducted by Slawomira Lozinska. Jan Peczek, actor of the Modern Theatre, read texts about St. Brother Albert by Stefan Zeromski and John Paul II. Father Jozef Buchajewicz, parish priest from Laski, made a beautiful speech. Regular donors were given “Blizniemu swemu…” statuettes, which went to Magdalena Abakanowicz, Gustaw Zemla and on behalf of Alicja Wahl – to her granddaughter. Finally, guests shared bread among themselves, according to a famous saying of St. Brother Albert.

Organizer of this prestigious event with tradition is “Blizniemu Swemu…” Foundation, acting for St. Brother Albert’s Aid Society. 226 artists gave 257 works (paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography) for this edition. All works are placed in a professional catalogue. The exhibition will last until 25 November.
Next exhibitions will take place in:

  • Wroclaw (Muzeum Miejskie), 30.11-2007-20.01.2008
  • Katowice (BWA), 23.01-2.02.2008
  • Cracow (Palac Sztuki), 7-24.02.2008
  • and Rzeszow (BWA), 6-29.03.2008.

On Sunday, 30 March 2008, at 11a.m. an auction will take place in Rzeszow. Profit from the sale of works will be used to help the poor and homeless in the Society’s care.

Thoughts of Br. Albert
Everyday work that is associated with one’s profession can become a prayer, virtue and example at the same time, because God wants us to work for our daily bread He gives us.
