On 11 November 2007, awards of the 9th edition of the “Pro Publico Bono” competition were given in Cracow. The aim of the competition is to support social development and building the new, democratic country through awarding the most interesting civic initiatives. The competition committee, chaired by Prof. Andrzej Zoll, awarded the first prize to Fundacja Pomocy Wzajemnej “Barka” (Barka Foundation for Mutual Help) from Poznan for creation of the European Network of Migrants in London and Dublin. First prizes and distinctions in five categories were also given. In the “health protection, social and charity support” category, the first prize and 45 thousand PLN were awarded to the Sanok Circle of our Society for “assistance and bringing light into the life of bedridden people.” Awards were given as part of the Independence Day ceremony in Cracow. |

Yesterday, Punkt Aktywizacji Bezrobotnych (Professional Insertion Centre for the Unemployed) was opened at 49 Strzegomska St. in Wroclaw. It is the 12th institution of that kind in Poland, run as part of the Equal Community Initiative project “Wyprowadzic na prosta” (“Back on Track”). The President of Wroclaw, Rafal Dutkiewicz, took part in the opening. Read more about the project at this website. |

On Sunday, 23 September 2007, the 7th Society Football Championships (five-man teams) finished. 6 teams from: Gdansk, Gorzow, Lodz, Przemysl and Wroclaw competed for the Society Chairman’s Cup. A team from the Wroclaw night shelter won before a team of the Wroclaw hostel and a team from Gdansk. As usual, the organizer was the Gorzow circle. This time it was the outdoor competition that took place in Dlugie by the Lipie lake. |

Today the 32nd Polish Film Festival in Gdynia has begun. Apart from the main contest, the independent cinema and short films competitions take place. The film “Hello Wiktor” by Dariusz Dobrowolski takes part in the independent cinema competition. It is a story of three homeless men. The film may be seen in Silver Screen cinemas on Wednesday, 18 September at 10 a.m. and on Thursday, 19 September at 14.25 p.m. Dariusz Dobrowolski is a manager of the St. Brother Albert’s Hostel in Wroclaw, and the three main characters are former and present occupants of this institution.

From 3 to 5 August 2007, the fifth all-Polish table tennis competition of occupants of the Brother Albert’s Hostels took place. In the School Complex in Rokietnica near Przemysl , 23 competitors played in 6 teams from hostels in: Debica, Lodz, Przemysl (2 teams), Rzeszow and Swidnik. - Lodz won in team category, before Przemysl and Rzeszow
- Andrzej Olejarz from Przemysl won in individual category, before Jan Szczesniak and Tomasz Paduch (both from Lodz)
- the best team in doubles was the one from Lodz, before Debica and Rzeszow.
Table tennis is as popular in Brother Albert’s Hostels as football. Competition has been organized for 5 years, at first by the Lodz circle, and for 2 years by the Przemysl circle of St. Brother Albert’s Aid Society. |

Today, the Homeless World Cup in Copenhagen has ended. The Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark has given the cup to the winning team from Scotland. Polish team has taken the second place, losing in the final to the Scottish team 9-3. Congratulations to our players and all the people who helped them to achieve this great success. Yesterday our team defeated Cameroon in the quarter-finals and Denmark in the semifinals. Today at 5 p.m. the final match with Scottish team for the Homeless World Cup will take place in Copenhagen. The Poles took the third place twice in the past, once - the second place, and today there is a big chance for the greatest trophy.
