On January 13, 2008 the shelter for men in Umultowo in the Poznan Branch of St. Brother Albert’s Aid Society celebrated the 20th anniversary of its existence. The celebration began with the thanksgiving Mass conducted by His Excellency Bishop Grzegorz Balcerek in the Church of St. Hedwig, Queen of Poland (Kosciol Sw. Jadwigi Krolowej Polski). Afterwards the meeting with the Celebrant, members of our society and guests took place in one of the parish rooms where the Chair of St. Brother Albert’s Aid Society, Elzbieta Madry, was given the congratulatory letter by the representative of the Regional Social Assistance Centre (Regionalny Osrodek Pomocy Spolecznej). The representatives of the TPBA Executive Board and Kalisz Branch of our Society also congratulated her on this success.
In 1987 the Society bought an unfinished single-family home in Widlakowa Street (ul. Widlakowa). After furnishing the house, the official opening was planned for December 24th, 1988 but the shelter started functioning on November 7th, 1988 when a homeless man became its first inhabitant. The number of inhabitants reached 14 till the end of 1998. When another building was added in 1990-91 the number of places rose to 42. |
